Complete Guide to Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories (Campaign Mode)

Complete Guide to Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories (Campaign Mode)

Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories is one of the most challenging games on the PlayStation 1—and also one of the most unfair if you don’t know exactly what you’re doing. There are no tributes here; fusions happen directly in your hand, and the Guardian Stars system can decide an entire duel with just a 500-point lead.

This walkthrough for Campaign Mode is designed to guide you from start to finish, covering every stage, every major opponent, and every decisive battle. The goal here is simple: to get you through the campaign as efficiently as possible, using strategy and preparation while minimizing the hassle.

If you want to beat the game—or finally defeat those bosses that traumatized you as a kid—this guide is for you!

Before Starting the Campaign

Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories features unique mechanics that differ significantly from the traditional TCG—especially in terms of the fusion system, Guardian Stars, and lands.

If you haven't mastered these basics yet, I highly recommend checking out our comprehensive guide to strategies and tips:

Essential Tips for Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories

There you'll find:

  • How mergers work
  • The best way to farm cards
  • The Guardian Stars System Explained
  • Strategies for building a strong deck early on
  • Site-wide table of contents for YFM

With that settled, let’s get the campaign started.

Ancient Egypt

You start as Prince Amenhotep, Yugi's ancestor, in Ancient Egypt. After the opening scene involving High Mage Heishin and the Millennium Relics, you speak with your mentor, Simon Muran, the bearer of the Millennium Puzzle.

He asks you to go to your room.

Initial selection

You will have two options:

  • <Run Away> (Run away)
  • <Keep listening> (Continue chatting)

👉 Choose <Run Away>.
If you bring up the topic three times, you'll go straight to the bedroom and miss out on important events.

After that, explore the city and return to Pharaoh’s Palace.

Pharaoh's Palace

Simon challenges you to a duel.

Options:

  • <Duel> (Accept)
  • <Pass> (Decline)

👉 Choose <Duel>.

If you lose, you'll be forced to go to your room. If that happens, restart the game.

Simon Muran

List of Drops - Simon Muran

See also: Simon Muran's Drop List

Level: Very easy
Goal here: Learn fusões

Stronger cards
  • Nekogal #2 – 1900/2000 (Jupiter) – Fusion
  • Pumpking – 1800/2000 (Jupiter) – Fusion
  • Mystical Sand – 2100/1700 (Mercury) – Fusion
Strategy
  • Use this duel to test out fusions.
  • Finish it quickly before it manages to fuse.
  • If he summons something powerful, use Raigeki.
  • Take advantage of Guardian Stars and the terrain.

Once you've won, you'll be free to explore.

Card Shop

After defeating Simon, go to the Card Shop and save your game.
This is important to avoid having to start over if you lose any of the upcoming duels.

After saving, head to the Duel Ground.

Duel Ground

In Duel Ground, you'll find four duelists available:

  • Teana
  • Villager 1
  • Villager 2
  • Villager 3

Whenever you chat with someone, the following options will appear:

  • <Duel> – To duel
  • <Talk to someone else> – Talk to someone else
  • <Go outside> – Exit

Choose <Duel>.
After winning, select <Talk to someone else> and repeat the process until you've defeated all four duelists.

Important:
These duels are optional. If you're having trouble, you can proceed through the campaign and come back later with a stronger deck.

Tip:
If possible, face Villager 3 first. This is your only chance to duel him in this stage, and defeating him now will make him available in Free Duel mode later on.

Teana

Teana's Drop List

See also: List of Teana Drops

Difficulty: Easy

Stronger cards
  • Some major mergers
Strategy

Teana usually puts her cards in defense mode, which makes the duel relatively calm at the start.

Still, be careful: at times, she can summon stronger monsters through fusions. If you’ve already mastered your own combinations, you won’t have much trouble here.

Villager 1

Droplist Villager 1

See also: List of Villager 1 Drops

Difficulty: Slightly higher than Teana

Highest card
  • Mystical Sand – 2100/1700 (Mercury) – Fusion
Strategy

From here on out, the battles start to require more attention.
If you already understand how fusions work, this battle won't be difficult.

The key is to prevent him from stabilizing the field and using Guardian Stars effectively.

Understanding how Guardian Stars is essential for winning tougher duels. If you haven't mastered this mechanic yet, I recommend reading the complete guide to Guardian Stars before continuing.

Villager 2

Droplist Villager 2

See also: List of Villager 2 Drops

Stronger cards
  • Mystical Sand – 2100/1700 (Mercury)
  • Pumpking – 1800/2000 (Jupiter)
Strategy

It may seem similar to the previous one, but this duelist can catch you off guard if you let your guard down.

Avoid attacking face-down cards unless you have a clear advantage in the attack. He may also resort to unexpected fusions.

Villager 3

Droplist Villager 3

See also: List of Villager 3 Drops

Difficulty: This can be dangerous if you're not prepared

Highest card
  • Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon – 2800/2100 (Pluto) – Fusion
Strategy

Here, you'll likely encounter one of the game's most important fusions for the first time: Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon.

If he manages to summon that card early, the duel could get complicated.
Without proper preparation, only Raigeki can save the match.

How does this merger work?

To create Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon, you need:

  • 1 Dragon-type monster
  • 1 compatible monster (Water, Zombie, Plant, Time Wizard, Rock, Thunder, etc.)
  • 1 Thunder-type monster

Learn this combo as soon as possible. It will be essential in several crucial battles down the road.

If you want to check out all the possible combinations in the game, take a look at our complete guide to all the Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories fusions, organized by race and type.

After defeating all the duelists, choose <Go outside>.

You and Teana will automatically head to the festival at Town Plaza.

Town Plaza

When you arrive at Town Plaza, you'll find Jono battling Seto, Heishin's right-hand man.

Jono loses the duel. Seto claims to be invincible, but Jono believes you can defeat him.

Regardless of the choices you make in the dialogue, you'll have to face Seto. He tells you to meet him at the Duel Ground.

Before continuing:

  • Go to the Card Shop and save the game.
  • If you visit the Shrine, you'll see some High Mages talking about Seto (optional dialogue).

After that, go to the Duel Ground.

Seto hasn't arrived yet. Jono asks if you want to have a duel to pass the time.

Options:

  • <Duel>
  • <Pass>

If you refuse, you will face Seto immediately.
I recommend choosing <Duel>.

Jono

List of Drops - Jono

See also: Jono's Drop List

Difficulty: Easy

Stronger cards
  • Mystical Sand – 2100/1700 (Mercury) – Fusion
  • Pumpking – 1800/2000 (Jupiter) – Fusion
Strategy

If you managed to defeat Villager 2 and 3, you shouldn't have any trouble here.

Now is a great time to strengthen your deck.

Important farming tip

I recommend dueling Jono a lot in Free Duel mode until you get the Time Wizard card.

When you fuse Time Wizard with any dragon, you get:

  • Thousand Dragon – 2400/2000

This card will be extremely useful in the challenges ahead.

After the fight, Seto arrives accompanied by his cronies.

Get ready for the showdown.

Hedge

Droplist Seto

Difficulty: The campaign's first major challenge

Stronger cards
  • Gaia the Fierce Knight – 2300/2100 (Mercury)
  • Ushi Oni – 2150/1950 (Jupiter) – Fusion
Strategy

This is the toughest match so far.

If you can summon:

  • Thousand Dragon
    or
  • Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon

the duel will be much easier to handle.

Otherwise:

  • Use your best combos
  • Enjoy the Guardian Stars
  • Use terrain changes whenever possible
  • Keep Raigeki as a last resort

It may take more than one try.

After winning, Seto leaves.

Save the game.

Now you can go to the Duel Ground to train or return to the Palace.

Head to the Palace.

Breach of the Palace

During the night, the palace is invaded by High Mage Heishin.

Seto confronts you and threatens the King and Queen if the Millennium Puzzle isn't handed over.

Regardless of your choice in the dialogue, Simon appears and hands you the Millennium Puzzle, ordering you to flee.

Choose <Run>.

You will be stopped by Heishin, who challenges you to a duel.

You can't say no. Choose <Duel>.

Heishin (First Duel)

Droplist Heishin

See also: List of Heishin Drops

Field: DARK (Yami)
Difficulty: Impossible to win at this time

Stronger cards
  • All of them.

There's no way to win this duel with the current deck.

You are bound to be defeated.

After the defeat, Heishin demands the Millennium Puzzle.

Simon asks you to destroy the relic to prevent it from falling into the wrong hands.

Choose <Shatter the Puzzle>.

You and Simon are trapped inside the Millennium Puzzle.

Simon explains that you won't be able to return until someone gathers all the pieces and solves the Millennium Puzzle.

And so ends the first phase of the campaign in Ancient Egypt.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Tournament

Now you take control of Yugi Muto in the present day.

The story moves on to a tournament organized by Kaiba Corporation. Joey wakes you up to let you know that the event is about to begin.

This is the stage where the game really starts to get harder.

Card Shop

Before your first duel, you'll be in the Card Shop.

Tea is currently working there on a temporary basis.

  • Save the game.
  • Select the option <Leave Shop>.

Preliminary Phase

The preliminary round consists of four consecutive matches.

From here on:

We can't afford to play carelessly anymore.
Basic mistakes are starting to cost us losses.

If you're having trouble:

  • Go to Free Duel
  • Get good cards
  • Learn essential mergers
  • Strengthen your deck before moving on

If you want to know exactly which duelists drop the best cards, check out our complete list of drops in Free Duel.

Rex Raptor (Preliminary Match #1)

List of Rex Raptor Drops in Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories (PS1)

See also: List of Rex Raptor Drops

Difficulty: Medium (the first serious match of the tournament)

Stronger cards
  • Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon – 2800/2100 (Pluto) – Fusion
  • Ushi Oni – 2150/1950 (Jupiter) – Fusion
  • Flame Cerberus – 2100/1800 (Mars) – Fusion
Strategy

If you've already mastered the fusion of Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon, this duel becomes much easier to handle.

Otherwise, it can quickly become a problem.

Rex usually:

  • Summon fusions with an attack rating above 2100
  • Apply pressure early
  • How to Use Guardian Stars Correctly

To win:

  • Use your best combos
  • Take control of the field
  • Take full advantage of Guardian Stars
  • Don't let the field stabilize

There are no specific tricks—it’s all about execution and consistency.

Farm Tip

Once you've beaten him, I recommend dueling Rex in Free Duel mode.

It's an excellent farm for dinosaur-type cards, especially:

  • Crawling Dragon #2

This card is important because, when you Fusion Summon it with a Thunder-type monster, you get:

  • Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon

This makes it much easier to move through the tournament.

If you want to review all possible combinations, check out the website's comprehensive guide to mergers.

After defeating Rex Raptor, you will automatically return to the Card Shop.

  • Save the game.
  • Get ready for the next showdown.

Weevil Underwood (Preliminary Match #2)

List of Weevil Underwood Drops in Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories (PS1)

See also: List of Weevil Underwood Drops

Difficulty: Medium / May surprise you

Stronger cards
  • Jirai Gumo – 2200/100 (Jupiter)
  • Cocoon of Evolution – 0/2000 (Jupiter)
Strategy

Weevil is entirely focused on Bug-type monsters.

Most of them use Guardian Star: Jupiter, so the natural advantage here is to use monsters with Mars.

That detail alone could decide the outcome.

He's more dangerous than Rex, especially if you're not making proper use of the Guardian Stars system.

A good strategy is to cast:

  • Flame Cerberus – 2100/1800 (Mars)
(Fusion of a Pyro monster + a Beast monster)

This ensures:

  • Advantages of Guardian Star
  • An attack strong enough to put pressure on the field

Be careful with:

  • Cocoon of Evolution – DEF 2000
Do not attack face-down cards unless you have at least 2100+ ATK.

Control the pace of the match and avoid playing aggressively without a clear advantage.

After winning:

  • You return to the Card Shop.
  • Save the game.
  • Get ready for the next showdown.

Mai Valentine (Preliminary Match #3)

List of Mai Valentine Drops in Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories (PS1)

See also: Mai Valentine's Drop List

Difficulty: Medium / Technical

Stronger cards
  • Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon – 2800/2100 (Pluto) – Fusion
  • Harpie’s Pet Dragon – 2000/2500 (Saturn) – Fusion
Strategy

Don't underestimate Mai.

She agrees:

  • Strong fusions
  • Destructive spells
  • Dangerous traps

If you can summon:

  • Thousand Dragon
    or
  • Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon

the duel becomes much simpler.

However, pay special attention to her supporting cards:

  • Harpie’s Feather Duster → destroys all your Spell/Trap Cards on the field
  • Dark Hole → clears the entire field
  • Bear Trap → Destroys monsters with less than 1500 ATK

Recommendations:

  • Avoid letting cards pile up face down
  • Don't rely solely on support
  • An attack featuring strong and consistent monsters
  • Guardian Stars Controller

It penalizes positioning errors.

After winning:

  • Save the game.
  • Get ready for the final match of the preliminary round.

Bandit Keith (Preliminary Match #4)

List of Bandit Keith Drops in Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories (PS1)

See also: List of Bandit Keith Drops

Difficulty: High (the first real peak of the tournament)

Stronger cards
  • Zoa – 2600/1900 (Moon)
  • Metal Zoa – 3000/2300 (Moon)
Strategy

If Mai already demanded attention, Keith takes it to a whole new level.

He mainly uses Machine-type monsters, and the biggest threat here is the combination:

  • Zoa + Metal Morph → Metal Zoa (3000 ATK)

If Metal Zoa takes the field, things will get a lot more complicated.

Without cards such as:

  • Raigeki
  • Dark Hole

Defeating him could become extremely difficult.

How to Deal with Keith
  • Press early.
  • Don't let Zoa stay on the field for too many turns.
  • Use your best fusions (especially Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon).
  • Explore Guardian Stars and the changing landscape.
  • Avoid relying solely on removal spells.

This matchup calls for consistency and clean execution.

After defeating Bandit Keith:

You advance to the Final Round of the Tournament.

Intermission and Revelations

During the tournament break, one of the most important scenes of the campaign takes place.

You and Joey are talking when Shadi shows up.

He claims to have been summoned by the Millennium Puzzle.

Shadi believes that all the Millennium Items are gathered at the tournament, and that she needs to uncover the secret behind them.

Yugi reveals that he had a dream about someone who looked just like him trapped inside the Millennium Puzzle.

Shadi suspects that this is related to Yami Yugi, the other half of Yugi's soul.

Using the Millennium Key, Shadi opens Yugi's mind.

Inside Yugi's Mind

Yugi meets Yami Yugi.

Yami reveals:

  • It belongs to Ancient Egypt.
  • You need to go back to your world.
  • Give Yugi six blank cards.

Yugi wakes up.

Shadi believes that these cards are connected to the Millennium Items.

The Final Stage of the Tournament is about to begin.

Save the game.

From here on, the difficulty increases considerably.

Shadi (Match #1 of the Finals)

List of Shadi's Drops in Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories (PS1)

See also: List of Shadi Drops

Difficulty: Low (easier section before the final climb)

Stronger cards

There is no need to single out specific letters here.

Shadi is surprisingly weak for someone who made it to the finals.

Strategy

This matchup shouldn't pose any major challenges.

The only thing to watch out for are his magic cards, especially:

  • Spellbinding Circle → Reduces your monster's ATK by 500.

Avoid relying on monsters with very precise attack stats (e.g., exactly 2000).

Other than that:

  • Use your best combos.
  • Control the field.
  • Finish up quickly.

You'll probably succeed on your first try.

Post-match event

After defeating Shadi:

  • Millennium Key
  • Millennium Scales

are absorbed by the blank cards handed out by Yami Yugi.

Shadi then concludes that:

The blank cards were distributed with the aim of absorbing and gathering all the Millennium Items—thereby freeing Yami.

Save the game.

From here on out, things really start to heat up.

Yami Bakura (Game 2 of the Finals)

List of Yami Bakura's Drops in Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories (PS1)

See also: List of Yami Bakura Drops

Difficulty: High (the first truly strategic matchup of the finals)

Stronger cards
  • Millennium Shield – 0/3000 (Uranus)
  • Labyrinth Wall – 0/3000 (Uranus)
Strategy

Yami Bakura is an extremely defensive Duelist.

If you don't make it clear that your monster has enough power to attack it, it will prefer to stay on the defensive.

But don't confuse defense with weakness.

It has some of the strongest defenses in the tournament:

  • 3,000 DEF points
  • Guardian Star: Uranus

That means attacking recklessly is suicide.

How to Break Through the 3,000-Point Barrier

The best way to get past Millennium Shield and Labyrinth Wall is:

  • Summon Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon
  • Use Guardian Star Moon
  • Equip with:
    • Beast Fangs
      or
    • Use terrain changes such as Umi or Mountain

Important:

Do not use Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon with Guardian Star Pluto.

Pluto is at a disadvantage against Uranus, which may prevent you from exceeding 3,000 defense.

Extra attention

Bakura also has:

  • Powerful offensive monsters
  • Dangerous spells
  • Efficient field management

This duel requires:

  • Choosing the Right Guardian Star
  • Well-maintained equipment
  • Pace control

It's not impossible, but it's a bit of a technical challenge.

Post-match event

After the defeat:

  • The Millennium Ring is absorbed by one of the blank cards.
  • Bakura returns to normal.
  • He is grateful to have been freed from the item's influence.

Save the game.

Now you're in the quarterfinals.

And their next opponent is no pushover.

Pegasus (Quarterfinal Match)

List of Pegasus Drops in Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories (PS1)

See also: List of Pegasus Drops

Difficulty: Very High (possibly the toughest match of the tournament)

Stronger cards
  • Bickuribox – 2300/2000 (Saturn)
  • Meteor B. Dragon – 3500/2000 (Mars)
Strategy

Pegasus is a game-changer.

He possesses the Millennium Eye, which in practice means:

  • He “anticipates” his moves.
  • He usually responds with even more powerful monsters.
  • He rarely attacks without a clear advantage.

In addition, he has strong control of the field.

Main hazards
  • Multiple copies of Raigeki
  • Multiple copies of Dark Hole
  • Dragon Capture Jar (removes Dragon-type monsters)

This means:

❌ You can't rely on just one monster.
❌ You can't build a strategy based on a static board.
❌ You can't play predictably.

About Dragon Capture Jar

Pegasus has the card that removes any Dragon-type monster from the field.

But there is one very important exception:

Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon is NOT affected
—because despite its appearance, its type is Thunder, not Dragon.

That’s a huge advantage in this matchup.

How to defeat Pegasus

You will need:

  • Monsters capable of consistently exceeding 2300 ATK.
  • Counter to Meteor B. Dragon (3500 ATK).
  • Equipment or a change of terrain to overcome obstacles.
  • Patience.

Recommendations:

  • Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon is in a good position.
  • Thousand Dragon as support.
  • Proper Use of Guardian Stars.
  • Do not deploy all resources to the field at the same time.

And yes—a little luck helps.

If you're stuck here

This is one of the best times to:

  • Go to Free Duel
  • Draw stronger cards
  • Improve deck consistency
  • Find strategic teams

Pushing forward without proper preparation can lead to frustration.

Post-match event

After defeating Pegasus:

  • The Millennium Eye is absorbed by one of the blank cards.
  • Now there are only two Millennium Items left.

Save the game.

You're in the semifinals.

And from here on out… it’s all heavyweights.

Isis (Semifinal Match)

List of Isis Drops in Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories (PS1)

See also: List of Isis Drops

Difficulty: High (less unpredictable than Pegasus, but still dangerous)

Stronger cards
  • B. Skull Dragon – 3200/2500 (Moon)
  • Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon – 2800/2100 (Pluto)
Strategy

Isis isn't as unpredictable as Pegasus, but she still demands your full attention.

What sets it apart is its traction control.

She uses a deck focused on water monsters and almost always activates:

  • Umi → transforming the field into a watery landscape

This benefits her monsters and can quickly tip the balance of the duel.

How to deal with the terrain

You have two options:

  1. Replace the terrain with another terrain tile.
  2. Use the water to your advantage.

An excellent choice here is:

  • Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon

He has an advantage on the water and can apply pressure effectively.

Please pay special attention to:
  • B. Skull Dragon (3200 ATK)
If he takes the field, you'll need to:
    • Equip
    • How to Use Guardian Star Correctly
    • Or have more than one powerful monster available
  • Swords of Revealing Light
    • Unleash your inner monsters
    • Prevents attacks for 3 turns
    • It could turn the tide of the match

Avoid relying on one-off moves.

Guardian Star Recommended

Prioritize monsters with Pluto when facing her Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon.

And, if possible:

Make sure you have at least two Twin-Headed Thunder Dragons in your deck.
This greatly increases your margin of safety.

After the victory:

You receive the Millennium Necklace.

The item is absorbed by one of the blank cards.

Now there is only one Millennium Item left.

Save the game.

You're in the Grand Final.

And your next opponent… do you know who it is yet?

Kaiba (Final Match)

List of Kaiba's Drops in Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories (PS1)

See also: List of Kaiba Drops

Difficulty: Very High (Tournament Final)

Stronger cards
  • Blue-Eyes White Dragon – 3000/2500 (Sun)
  • Labyrinth Wall – 0/3000 (Uranus)
  • Millennium Shield – 0/3000 (Uranus)
Strategy

Kaiba is the final match of the tournament.

He has three Blue-Eyes White Dragons and often starts the duel by summoning one of them right away.

If you're not prepared, the match could be over very quickly.

The main problem
  • 3,000 ATK right from the first few turns.
  • Absurd defenses with 3,000 DEF.
  • Constant pressure.

Without:

  • Equip cards
  • Guardian Star (favorable)
  • Change of land

or

  • Raigeki / Dark Hole

Defeating a Blue-Eyes can be extremely difficult.

How to Beat Kaiba

You will need:

  • Monsters with over 2800 ATK and support.
  • Equipment capable of exceeding 3,000.
  • Guardian Star Controls.
  • A consistent strategy (don't rely on just one monster).

If you fail on your first try, that's normal.

This is one of the toughest matchups in the tournament.

Recommendation:

  • Go to Free Duel.
  • Strengthen your deck.
  • Look for cards with 2500+ base ATK.
  • Create more consistent combinations.

Persistence is essential here.

Post-Tournament Event

With the victory over Kaiba:

You now have all the cards containing the Millennium Items.

Yugi uses the gathered power to free the prince of Ancient Egypt.

Simon Muran reappears.

He reveals:

  • Heishin now possesses six of the seven Millennium Items.
  • The world has been overtaken by the power of darkness.
  • Each item was sealed in a different temple.

Your new mission:

Travel from temple to temple, recover the Millennium Items, and seal their power once and for all.

Simon says that the locations of the temples can be found among the ruins.

Now it's all up to you.

And Simon disappears.

Back to Ancient Egypt

After the tournament events, you return to your world in Ancient Egypt.

The situation has changed completely.

What was once a prosperous kingdom now seems abandoned—ruins, silence, and the rule of Heishin’s forces.

The real campaign starts now.

Shrine of Glory

You find yourself standing in front of what remains of the temple.

There's no one around.

Turn left until you reach the next location.

King’s Valley

Here you will find Sadin, guardian of the valley.

He recognizes you immediately and seems surprised that you're still alive.

During the conversation, he reveals:

  • The king and queen were defeated.
  • The villains have taken control of the land.
  • There is still hope—because you came back.

Available options:

  • <Go to parents’ tomb>
  • <Go to Forbidden Ruins>
  • <Leave this place>

If you choose “Go to the parents’ tomb,” Sadin tells you that the remains of the king and queen are not there—Heishin would never allow it.

Choose:

👉 <Go to Forbidden Ruins>

Sadin asks if it was Simon who revealed this information.
He explains that he doesn't know the exact location of the ruins, since there are many underground tunnels in the area.

Now select:

👉 <Leave this place>

Turn right twice until you reach Metropolis.

Metropolis

Home sweet home?

Not anymore.

The city is completely deserted.

Head to the Old Duel Ground.

Metropolis – Old Duel Ground

The place was destroyed.

You run into Jono, who is surprised to see you again.

He explains:

  • The High Mages destroyed the Old Duel Ground.
  • Since you disappeared, the villains have tightened their grip.
  • The duels now take place in a secret underground location.

He'll take you there.

Metropolis – Secret Location

Teana appears and is happy to see him alive.

Jono remarks that they might have to live in hiding for the rest of their lives.

He then asks if you want to duel.

Options:
  • <Duel with Jono>
  • <Duel with Teana>
  • <Decline>

👉 I recommend choosing <Decline>.

You haven't saved the game since you returned to Egypt.

If you lose here, you'll have to face Kaiba again.

It's not worth the risk.

Hiding Card Shop

A new location is now available: Hiding Card Shop.

Go to him right away.

You'll meet the owner of the Card Shop.

Options:

  • <Card Shop>
  • <Dueling Grounds>

Choose:

👉 <Card Shop>
Save the game.

(Phew.)

After saving:

  • Get out.
  • Go back to the Hiding Card Shop.
  • Choose <Dueling Grounds>.

Metropolis – Dueling Grounds (Basement)

Here you will find:

  • Jono 2nd
  • Teana 2nd
  • Villager 1
  • Villager 2
  • Villager 3 (doesn't want to duel)

Whenever I talk to someone, I have the following options:

  • <Duel>
  • <Talk to someone else>
  • <Go outside>

Choose <Duel> and, after winning, select <Talk to someone else>.

Keep doing this until you've defeated all the relevant duelists.

Important Note

You don't need to fight Villager 1 and 2 again.

Their deck remains virtually unchanged.

Prioritize:

  • Jono
  • Teana

Now they have stronger decks and are better sources of challenges and potential drops.

Jono (2nd Duel)

List of Jono 2nd's Drops in Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories (PS1)

See also: Jono 2nd's Drop List

Difficulty: Medium (stronger than before, but manageable)

Stronger cards
  • Red-Eyes Black Dragon – 2400/2000 (Moon)
  • Flame Cerberus – 2100/1800 (Mars) – Fusion
Strategy

Jono's deck has come a long way since our first meeting.

Even so, if you managed to get past Kaiba, this duel shouldn't be too much of a challenge.

The main threat is the Red-Eyes Black Dragon (2400 ATK).

To handle it safely:

  • Use Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon
    , or
  • Use a monster with at least 2000 ATK and activate Guardian Star on Sun

Most of Jono's other monsters use Guardian Star on Mars.

This means that monsters with Neptune will have a natural advantage and make it easier to control the battle.

It’s not a difficult match—it’s more of a preparatory step before what comes next.

Teana (2nd Duel)

See also: Teana 2nd Drop List

Difficulty: Low to Medium

Highest card
  • Empress Judge – 2100/1700 (Uranus)
Strategy

Teana's deck is also stronger than it was in the first phase, but she still doesn't pose a real threat.

Even so, don't underestimate it—it can occasionally come up with unexpected combinations.

If you summon a monster with over 2300 ATK, the duel practically takes care of itself.

Maintain constant pressure and control the Guardian Stars properly.

After defeating Jono and Teana, select the option <Go Outside>.

Go back to the Hiding Card Shop, save the game, and exit again.

Your next destination is Pharaoh’s Palace.

Pharaoh's Palace

The palace is completely destroyed.

There's no one around.

You will have two options:

  • <Enter>
  • <Don’t enter>

👉 Choose <Enter>.

As you enter, you realize the extent of the devastation.
Suddenly, a Mage appears.

New options are emerging:

  • <Duel>
  • <Pass>

You should choose <Duel>.

Mage Soldier

See also: List of Mage Soldier Drops

Difficulty: Easy

Highest card
  • Summoned Skull – 2500/1200 (Moon) – Fusion
Strategy

This is a simple duel.

You'll only have trouble if:

  • If you have a poorly structured deck, visit
    or
  • I had terrible luck with my first few purchases.

If you already have powerful fusion monsters like Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon or any monster with 2300 or more ATK, victory will come naturally.

Finish quickly and don't give him time to set up.

Post-match event

After defeating him, the Mage Soldier disappears.

You are now in Simon's room.

Options:

  • <Search>
  • <Don’t search>

👉 Choose <Search>.

You'll find the map of the ruins.

Save the game.

Now press the Circle button to leave Metropolis and head to King’s Valley.

King’s Valley (Return)

When you talk to Sadin, the following options appear:

  • <Give Map>
  • <Leave this place>

Choose <Give Map>.

Sadin will take you to the Forbidden Ruins.

Forbidden Ruins

When you arrive, two options appear:

  • <Look at map>
  • <Look at drawing>

👉 Choose <Look at map>.

Seto appears and reveals important information:

  • The map shows the locations of the Millennium Items.
  • Heishin hid the items.
  • He plans to bring them together to take over the world.
  • Each item is in the care of a High Mage.

Sadin questions Seto's loyalty.

Seto replies that you’ll understand soon enough, but first he wants to know if you’re capable of defeating the five High Mages.

He's leaving.

Sadin warns you not to trust him.

New options appear:

  • <Look at map>
  • <Look at drawing>
  • <Return>

👉 Choose <Return>.

Leave the premises.

The Five Shrines

Five new locations are now unlocked:

  • Sea Shrine
  • Forest Shrine
  • Mountain Shrine
  • Desert Shrine
  • Meadow Shrine

Each sanctuary has:

  • 1 Low Mage (gatekeeper)
  • 1 High Mage (Guardian of the Millennium Item)

Your goal now is to defeat the High Mages and recover the items.

Important Note

You do NOT have to defeat the five High Mages right away.

Ideally, you should defeat only two to four.

This will allow you to face Seto 2nd later on, making it easier to progress.

Progression Tip

If you're having trouble against a High Mage:

  1. Defeat the Low Mage.
  2. Come back.
  3. Save the game.
  4. Go to Free Duel.
  5. Strengthen your deck.

One of the best Low Mages for farming is the Meadow Mage, which usually provides good cards.

Sea Shrine

You arrive at the Sea Shrine.

The guardian of the entrance is the Ocean Mage.

Ocean Mage

List of Ocean Mage Drops in Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories (PS1)

See also: List of Ocean Mage Drops

Venue: SEA (Umi)
Difficulty: Medium (home-field advantage in effect)

Highest card
  • Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon – 2800/2100 (Pluto) – Fusion
Strategy

The tournament begins in Umi (SEA).

This means that the terrain already favors water-type monsters and tips the balance of the battle.

The best card for this matchup is:

  • Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon

He has an advantage in the water and can quickly take control of the field.

If you don't have Twin-Headed:

  • Replace the terrain with another terrain tile
    or
  • Use monsters that aren't affected by Umi

If you're prepared, the duel is manageable.

After the victory

After defeating him, you'll have two options:

  • <Proceed>
  • <Return>

👉 Choose <Proceed>.

If you choose <Return>, you will have to face the Ocean Mage again before you can access the High Mage.

You step inside the sanctuary.

There is the true guardian of the Millennium Item.

High Mage Secmeton

List of Drops from High Mage Secmeton in Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories (PS1)

See also: List of Drops from High Mage Secmeton

Field: SEA (Umi)
Difficulty: High (first aquatic High Mage)

Stronger cards
  • Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon – 2800/2100 (Pluto)
  • Dark Magician – 2500/2100 (Mercury)
Strategy

This is where the real challenge of Sea Shrine begins.

The field is still Umi, so controlling the terrain is key.

The best approach:

  • Summon Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon as soon as possible.

However, please note:

Secmeton also has a Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon.

If he casts it first, you could quickly lose control of the duel.

Another point to note is:

  • Dark Magician (2500 ATK)

He might pressure you if you don't have an immediate answer.

How to Win
  • Apply pressure right from the start.
  • Take advantage of your home-field advantage.
  • Use equipment to exceed ATK limits.
  • Don't let the field stabilize.

If you build a strong deck right from the start, the match becomes manageable.

Post-match event

Upon defeating Secmeton:

You retrieve the Millennium Necklace.

One of the Millennium Items is once again in your possession.

Forest Shrine

You arrive at the Forest Shrine.

The guardian of the entrance is the Forest Mage.

Forest Mage

List of Forest Mage Drops in Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories (PS1)

See also: List of Forest Mage Drops

Terrain: Forest
;Difficulty: Low

Highest card
  • Great Moth – 2600/2500 (Jupiter)
Strategy

This is one of the simplest Low Mages on the route.

Although the match starts in Forest, it’s easy to keep under control.

The best approach:

  • Summon Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon
  • Change the terrain to Mountain or Umi

His strongest card is Great Moth (2600 ATK), but it doesn't pose much of a threat if your deck is even minimally structured.

Control the field and finish quickly.

After the victory

After defeating him, two options appear:

  • <Proceed>
  • <Return>

👉 Choose <Proceed>.

If you choose <Return>, you'll need to face the Forest Mage again before you can reach the High Mage.

You step inside the sanctuary.

There is the true guardian of the Millennium Item.

High Mage Anubisius

List of Drops from High Mage Anubisius in Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories (PS1)

See also: List of Drops from High Mage Anubisius

Terrain: Forest
;Difficulty: High (can become very dangerous)

Stronger cards
  • Great Moth – 2600/2500 (Jupiter)
  • Perfectly Ultimate Great Moth – 3500/3000 (Jupiter)
Strategy

Anubisius is a dangerous duelist—but especially if the duel drags on.

The biggest threat is:

  • Perfectly Ultimate Great Moth (3500 ATK)

If that card is played, the match could quickly get out of hand.

How to deal with Anubisius

The key here is speed and terrain control.

Recommendations:

  • Summon Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon early on.
  • Change the field to Mountain or Umi.
  • Use monsters with Guardian Star on Mars (advantage against Jupiter).
  • Put pressure on him before he buys the strongest card.

Most of his monsters use Jupiter, so mastering Guardian Star is essential.

If you let the duel drag on too long, the chances of him drawing Perfectly Ultimate Great Moth increase.

Post-match event

Upon defeating Anubisius:

You retrieve the Millennium Key.

Another Millennium Item is now in your possession.

Mountain Shrine

You arrive at the Mountain Shrine.

The guardian of the entrance is the Mountain Mage.

Mountain Mage

List of Mountain Mage Drops in Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories (PS1)

See also: List of Mountain Mage Drops

Terrain: Mountain
Difficulty: Medium (depends on your starting hand)

Highest card
  • Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon – 2800/2100 (Pluto) – Fusion
Strategy

This matchup hinges heavily on how the game starts.

If you:

  • First, summon a Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon
  • Or has a clear home-field advantage

The duel practically resolves itself.

The problem is if he merges them first.

On the Mountain terrain, Dragon-type monsters have an advantage, which makes the Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon even more dangerous.

How to deal with the terrain

You have two options:

  1. Build your own Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon in no time.
  2. Replace the terrain with another terrain tile.

If the match drags on and he manages to control the field, things could get complicated.

After the victory

After defeating him, two options appear:

  • <Proceed>
  • <Return>

👉 Choose <Proceed>.

If you choose <Return>, you'll need to face him again before you can access the High Mage.

You step inside the sanctuary.

There is the true guardian of the Millennium Item.

High Mage Atenza

List of Drops from High Mage Atenza in Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories (PS1)

See also: List of High Mage Drops

Terrain: Mountain
;Difficulty: High

Stronger cards
  • Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon – 2800/2100 (Pluto)
  • B. Skull Dragon – 3200/2500 (Moon)
Strategy

Atenza is considerably more dangerous than the Mountain Mage.

Unlike the Low Mage, he doesn't rely solely on fusion to apply pressure on the field. His playstyle is more aggressive.

The biggest problem here is:

  • B. Skull Dragon (3200 ATK)

On the Mountain course, the match can quickly get out of hand.

How to Beat Atenza

You must meet at least one of the following requirements:

  • His own Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon
  • Change of land
  • Strategic teams
  • Guardian Star (favorable)

If he summons B. Skull Dragon early, you will need to:

  • Equip
  • Or get an immediate response (Raigeki / Dark Hole)

This is a match that requires:

  • Good starting hand
  • Early pressure
  • Field control

Yes, a little luck helps—but consistency in your deck helps a lot more.

Post-match event

Upon defeating Atenza:

You retrieve the Millennium Ring.

Another Millennium Item is now in your possession.

Desert Shrine

You arrive at the Desert Shrine.

The guardian of the entrance is the Desert Mage.

Desert Mage

List of Desert Mage Drops in Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories (PS1)

See also: Desert Mage Drop List

Field: Wasteland
; Difficulty: Low

Highest card
  • Labyrinth Wall – 0/3000 (Uranus)
Strategy

This is one of the simplest Low Mages on the route.

The biggest obstacle is:

  • Labyrinth Wall (3000 DEF)

But that's only a problem if you're not prepared.

With:

  • Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon
  • Equip card
  • Or switching to Mountain or Umi

You can easily get past that defense.

Avoid attacking blindly in the dark without enough power to break through 3000 DEF.

After the victory

After defeating him, two options appear:

  • <Proceed>
  • <Return>

👉 Choose <Proceed>.

If you choose <Return>, you'll have to face him again before you can reach the High Mage.

You step inside the sanctuary.

There is the true guardian of the Millennium Item.

High Mage Martis

List of Drops from High Mage Martis in Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories (PS1)

See also: List of Drops from High Mage Martis

Terrain (Field): Wasteland
Difficulty: Medium / High (depending on field control)

Stronger cards
  • Labyrinth Wall – 0/3000 (Uranus)
  • Summoned Skull – 2500/1200 (Moon)
  • Zoa – 2600/1900 (Moon)
Strategy

Martis is basically an improved version of the Desert Mage.

He agrees:

  • Solid defense (3000 DEF)
  • Average offensive power (2500–2600 ATK)
  • LP Control
Points to note

In addition to the monsters, it features:

  • Dian Keto the Cure Master → Restores 5,000 HP

And occasionally it can:

  • Fuse two Dian Keto to create Megamorph
  • Equip a monster
  • Significantly increase ATK

If that happens, the match could quickly turn around.

How to Beat Martis
  • Change the terrain whenever possible.
  • Choose Umi or Mountain if you're using Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon.
  • Don't let him stabilize the field.
  • Attack before he uses healing spells and equips items.

The mistake here is to let the standoff drag on.

The longer it goes on, the better his chances of recovering LP and turning the game around.

Post-match event

Upon defeating Martis:

You retrieve the Millennium Scales.

Another Millennium Item is now in your possession.

Meadow Shrine

You arrive at the Meadow Shrine.

The guardian of the entrance is the Meadow Mage.

Meadow Mage

List of Meadow Mage drops

See also: List of Meadow Mage Drops

Map: Meadow (Sogen)
Difficulty: Medium (underestimated by many players)

Highest card
  • Millennium Shield – 0/3000 (Uranus)
Strategy

Don't underestimate this matchup.

The Meadow (Sogen) field boosts Warrior-type monsters, and the Meadow Mage uses several of them.

This means:

  • Constant pressure
  • Higher-than-expected attack
  • A field that favors the opponent

The biggest defensive challenge is:

  • Millennium Shield (3000 DEF)

But the real danger lies in the deck as a whole.

How to Win
  • Change the terrain whenever possible.
  • Don't let the field stabilize.
  • Use your strongest combos.
  • Control the Guardian Stars correctly.

Speed is key here.

Essential Farming Tip (the most important one in the game)

Meadow Mage is one of the best duelists for farming powerful cards in Free Duel mode.

After defeating him:

👉 Go t
👉 Save the game
👉 Go to Free Duel
👉 Keep dueling against him

Yes—often.

He can play cards such as:

  • Dark Magician
  • Gaia the Fierce Knight
  • Meteor B. Dragon

And here’s the crux of the matter:

You need to try to get at least one Meteor B. Dragon (3500 ATK).

This card will be decisive in the game's final showdowns.

After the victory

After defeating him, two options appear:

  • <Proceed>
  • <Return>

👉 Choose <Proceed>.

If you choose <Return>, you'll need to face him again before you can access the High Mage.

You step inside the sanctuary.

There's the most dangerous High Mage on the route.

High Mage Kepura

List of Drops from High Mage Kepura in Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories (PS1)

See also: List of Drops from High Mage Kepura

Terrain (Field): Meadow (Sogen)
Difficulty: Very High (the most difficult among the High Mages)

Stronger cards
  • Millennium Shield – 0/3000 (Uranus)
  • Gate Guardian – 3750/3400 (Moon)
Strategy

For many players, Kepura is the toughest High Mage in the game.

The reason is simple:

  • Gate Guardian (3750 ATK)

One of the strongest cards in the entire deck.

If he plays that card before you're ready, the duel could be over in a flash.

How to defeat the Gate Guardian

The safest way is:

  • Meteor B. Dragon (3500 ATK)
  • Using Guardian Star on Sun

With the right Guardian, you can overcome his power.

No Meteor B. Dragon?

The situation is becoming much more complicated.

You will need:

  • Equip cards
  • Change of land
  • Luck
  • Or hope he doesn't draw Gate Guardian
Important tip

If you don't have Meteor B. Dragon yet, you can obtain it through fusion:

  • Meteor Dragon + Red-Eyes Black Dragon

It's definitely worth getting this card before facing Kepura.

Strategic recommendations
  • Face Kepura after defeating Seto 2nd (this makes the game easier to control).
  • Don't go into that duel unprepared.
  • Make sure you have at least one way to exceed 3500 ATK.
Post-match event

Upon defeating Kepura:

You retrieve the Millennium Eye.

Now almost all of the Millennium Items are under your control.

Upcoming Historical Event

Regardless of whether you defeat all the High Mages or not:

  • Save the game.
  • Go to the Hiding Card Shop.
  • Head to the Dueling Grounds.

You'll find Jono there.

He states that:

Heishin was there
And he used Teana as bait to capture the Millennium Puzzle.

You and Jono set out to rescue her.

Labyrinth Shrine

You and Jono arrive at the Labyrinth Shrine.

At the entrance, a new guard blocks the way.

Labyrinth Mage

List of drops from the Labyrinth Mage

See also: List of Labyrinth Mage Drops

Difficulty: High

Stronger cards
  • Gate Guardian – 3750/3400 (Moon)
  • Wall Shadow – 1600/3000 (Uranus)
Strategy

The Labyrinth Mage deck is clearly inspired by Para and Dox from the anime.

You will face:

  • Wall Shadow
  • Labyrinth Tank
  • Dungeon Worm
  • Sanga / Kazejin / Suijin
  • Gate Guardian

The great danger is:

  • Gate Guardian (3750 ATK)

If you already have Meteor B. Dragon, this battle becomes manageable.

Other good options:

  • Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon
  • Strategic cards
  • How to Play Guardian Star

The best strategy is to defeat him quickly before he stabilizes the field.

Post-match event

After defeating the Labyrinth Mage:

You and Jono realize that you're trapped in a maze.

Follow this sequence exactly:

  • <Go right>
  • <Go right>
  • <Go left>
  • <Go right>

Note:
If you take the wrong path, you'll have to fight the Labyrinth Mage again.

The story now takes a different turn

What happens next depends on whether or not you have already defeated all the High Mages.

CASE 1 – You have NOT defeated all the High Mages

If you follow the right path, you will find:

  • Teana
  • Heishin
  • Hedge

Heishin declares that Seto will become the guardian of the Millennium Puzzle if he manages to take it from you.

Heishin is leaving.

Seto challenges him to a duel.

September 2nd

List of drops from Seto 2nd

See also: List of Drops from Seto 2nd

Difficulty: Extremely High

Stronger cards
  • Gate Guardian – 3750/3400 (Moon)
  • Meteor B. Dragon – 3500/2000 (Mars)
  • Blue-Eyes White Dragon – 3000/2500 (Sun)
Strategy

Level 2 is one of the toughest battles in the game.

It features:

  • 3 Gate Guardians
  • Meteor B. Dragon
  • Blue-Eyes White Dragon
  • Heavy monsters in a row

And also:

  • Crush Card → destroys monsters with 1500 or more ATK

This means:

❌ You can't rely on a single powerful monster
❌ You can't expose yourself too early
❌ You can't play predictably

How to Win
  • Make sure your Meteor B. Dragon is positioned correctly.
  • Have cards like Raigeki.
  • Apply constant pressure.
  • Don't give up completely.

This duel requires:

  • Patience
  • Persistence
  • And a good dose of emotional control
Post-match event

After defeating him:

Seto reveals that he was just testing you.

He frees Teana.

At the Dueling Grounds, Jono and Teana say thank you.

Now:

👉 Defeat the remaining High Mages.

After defeating everyone:

Seto appears again and reveals:

Heishin is at Vast Shrine.

CASE 2 – You have ALREADY defeated all the High Mages

If you follow the right path, you will find:

  • Teana
  • Heishin
  • Hedge

Heishin declares that Seto will become the guardian of the Millennium Puzzle if he manages to take it.

Heishin is leaving.

But now the conversation changes.

Seto reveals that he kidnapped Teana just to take him to Heishin's chamber.

You have two options:

  • <Go ahead>
  • <Ignore the chance>

👉 Choose <Go ahead>.

Seto warns that there will be Mages along the way who have sworn to protect Heishin.

As you continue on, you will find:

  • Guardian Sebek (Reptile)
  • Guardian Neku (Winged Beast)

Guardian Sebek

List of Guardian Sebek drops

See also: List of Guardian Sebek Drops

Field: Dark (Yami)
; Difficulty: Very High

Stronger cards
  • Millennium Shield – 0/3000 (Uranus)
  • Zoa – 2600/1900 (Moon)
  • Metal Zoa – 3000/2300 (Moon)
Strategy

From here on, the difficulty level increases significantly.

The Dark (Yami) attribute favors its monsters, especially:

  • Tease
  • Metal Zoa

If you leave the field in the dark, you'll be at a disadvantage.

How to Deal with Sebek
  • Change the terrain as soon as possible.
  • Avoid letting Zoa evolve into Metal Zoa.
  • Have a counter for 3000 ATK.

Best options:

  • Meteor B. Dragon
  • Dark Magician with Equipment
  • Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon in a good position
Special attention

Sebek also uses dangerous magic cards, such as:

  • Shadow Spell → Reduces your monster's ATK by 1000

This could turn into a seemingly controlled showdown.

Don't attack at the exact power limit.

Always leave yourself some wiggle room.

Guardian Neku

List of Guardian Neku drops

See also: List of Guardian Neku Drops

Field: Dark (Yami)
; Difficulty: Very High

Stronger cards
  • Skull Knight – 2650/2250 (Mercury)
  • Summoned Skull – 2500/1200 (Moon)
Strategy

Neku uses a logic similar to Sebek's:

  • DARK Land
  • Offensive pressure
  • Powerful monsters based on Guardian Star's advantage

However, it is a bit more technical.

The greatest danger: Skull Knight

Skull Knight features:

  • 2650 ATK
  • Guardian Star: Mercury

To defeat him safely:

Use Meteor B. Dragon with Guardian Star on Mars.

Do not use Sun-
; Sun is at a disadvantage against Mercury.

That detail could decide the outcome.

Tip

If your hand gets stuck:

You can "clear out" weak cards by fusing them together, just to cycle through the deck faster.

This increases your chances of cashing out:

  • Meteor B. Dragon
  • Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon
  • Important equipment cards
Post-Match Event

After defeating Guardian Sebek and Guardian Neku:

You finally reach:

Heishin.

And he has no intention of being defeated.

Heishin 2nd

List of Heishin 2nd drops

See also: List of Heishin 2nd Drops

Field: Dark (Yami)
Difficulty: Extremely High (one of the hardest duels in the game)

Stronger cards
  • Gate Guardian – 3750/3400 (Moon)
  • Meteor B. Dragon – 3500/2000 (Mars)
  • Blue-Eyes White Dragon – 3000/2500 (Sun)
  • Exodia's Pieces
What to expect from this matchup

Heishin 2nd features some of the strongest monsters in the entire campaign.

He agrees:

  • Brute force (3000+ constant ATK)
  • Continuous pressure
  • Destructive spells
  • Field control

Yes, he has all five pieces of Exodia.

But realistically:

If you lose, it will be before he even summons Exodia.

The issue here is field strength, not the alternative condition.

Recommended strategy

This duel requires:

  • His best cards
  • Flawless execution
  • And a little luck
Highly recommended cards
  • Meteor B. Dragon with Guardian Star in Sun
  • Mountain Lot
  • Equip powerful cards
  • 2 or 3 Raigeki
  • Widespread Ruin
  • Swords of Revealing Light
  • Harpie’s Feather Duster
Why Mountain + Sun?

Because:

  • Meteor B. Dragon reaches the required level to face Gate Guardian.
  • Sun can provide a strategic advantage against part of his deck.
  • Mountain boosts dragons and improves their safety margin.
Special attention

Heishin 2nd also features:

  • Widespread Ruin

This means:

Don't blindly attack with your strongest monster if there are face-down cards on the field.

Use Harpie’s Feather Duster first, if possible.

That detail can make or break a game.

How to improve your chances
  • Don't put all your resources on the field at once.
  • Work with gradually increasing pressure.
  • Always have an emergency plan ready.
  • Don't rely on just one monster.

This is a battle of endurance and precision.

Post-Match Event

After defeating Heishin 2nd:

He doesn't believe he lost.

So:

Seto appears.

He reveals that all the Millennium Items have been gathered once again.

You head toward the Forbidden Ruins.

The Final Betrayal

Getting there:

Seto reveals his true intentions.

He claims that he only helped him to save him the trouble of gathering the Millennium Items on his own.

Your goal:

Summon the Dark Lord
and take over the world with the power of darkness.

He declares that this will be the final battle.

Important Notice

You cannot save after defeating Heishin 2nd.

And from here on:

It's all uphill from here.

Get ready.

September 3rd

List of Seto 3rd's drops

See also: List of Drops from Seto 3rd

Field: Dark (Yami)
Difficulty: Extremely High (Top 3 hardest duels in the game)

Stronger cards
  • Gate Guardian – 3750/3400 (Moon)
  • Meteor B. Dragon – 3500/2000 (Mars)
  • Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon – 4500/3000 (Sun)
The real problem

Seto 3rd features:

  • 3 Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon
  • 3 Widespread Ruin
  • 3 Harpie’s Feather Duster
  • 3 of the best spells in the game

Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon has:

  • 4500 ATK
  • 3000 DEF

Meteor B. Dragon alone isn't enough.

How to exceed 4,500 ATK

You need to exceed that number.

Some possibilities:

Option 1 – Meteor B. Dragon

  • Equip with Megamorph
  • Equip with Dragon Treasure
  • Use Mountain Terrain

Option 2 – Skull Knight

  • Guardian Star in Mercury
  • Yami Lot
  • Equip cards

If you can get Skull Knight's ATK to 4150 or higher, you can win with the right strategic advantage.

Overall strategy

You will need:

  • Apply pressure early
  • Don't let him use all his spells
  • Answers regarding removal
  • Dealing with multiple threats

If the duel drags on too long:

The odds drop dramatically.

Post-Match Event

After defeating Seto 3rd:

He can't believe he came so close to achieving his goal—and then lost it.

Now you have all the Millennium Items.

Two options appear:

  • <Destroy Items>
  • <Don’t destroy>

But the choice is irrelevant.

Before the final decision:

Heishin reappears.

The Final Manipulation

Heishin reveals:

He let you defeat him earlier just so he could follow you to the Forbidden Ruins.

He captures Seto.

And it requires the Millennium Items.

You have two options:

  • <Hand over the Items>
  • <Refuse>

Even if you refuse, the choice comes up again.

The only possible option is:

👉 <Hand over the Items>

The Final Invocation

Heishin summons:

DarkNite, the Dark King.

But something goes wrong.

DarkNite refuses to obey.

Heishin is transformed into a card.

Seto reveals that you still have the Millennium Card.

DarkNite decides he can't go back empty-handed.

He proposes:

If you defeat him in a duel, he'll leave.

Otherwise…

You will turn over the cards.

DarkNite

list of Darknite drops

See also: List of DarkNite Drops

Field: Dark (Yami)
Difficulty: High (less brutal than Seto 3rd, but still dangerous)

Highest card
  • Cosmo Queen – 2900/2450
Strategy

Compared to Seto 3rd, DarkNite is easier to control.

But don't mistake that for ease.

The biggest problem here isn't just the monsters' base power, but rather:

  • Destructive spells
  • Healing Cards
  • Damage manipulation
Dangerous cards he uses
  • Raigeki
  • Reverse Trap
  • Dian Keto: The Cure Master
  • Negative Reaction to Simochi
  • Equip cards
  • Field cards

His best monster is Cosmo Queen (2900 ATK).

This means that any monster with over 3000 ATK that's well-protected is enough to control the duel.

How to Win
  • Press early.
  • Don't leave the field blank.
  • Avoid relying solely on Equip (because of Reverse Trap).
  • Set the pace.

If you've made it past Seto 3rd, this battle is totally manageable.

Post-Match Event

After defeating him:

DarkNite protests.

He claims that, as the creator of the cards, he can't lose.

He demands another duel.

And then it changes.

Nitemare (True Form)

List of Nitemare drops

Field: Dark (Yami)
Difficulty: Extremely High (Final challenge of the game)

Stronger cards
  • Gate Guardian – 3750/3400 (Moon)
  • Meteor B. Dragon – 3500/2000 (Mars)
  • Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon – 4500/3000 (Sun)

Yes.

It's practically like facing Seto 3rd all over again.

Or worse.

Final Strategy

Don't let him settle into the game.

If Nitemare keeps a strong monster on the field for one turn:

On his next turn, he will use:

  • Spells
  • Equips
  • Field cleanup

And you could lose it in a flash.

Use the same strategy against Seto 3rd:
  • Immediate pressure
  • Land surveying
  • Guardian Star (correct)
  • Raigeki as an emergency response
  • Equip only when necessary
  • Don't reveal everything at once

This duel requires:

  • Good starting hand
  • Correct reading of the field
  • And a little luck

The End of the Story

After the victory:

Nitemare is at her wits' end.

Shout:

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO…

And it disappears.

Seto leaves the ruins.

He is never seen again.

Egypt is unified once again.

You become the greatest of the pharaohs.

The Forbidden Ruins are sealed.

There are no more Mages.

And so ends the story known as:

Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories.

Wrapping Up the Walkthrough

If you've made it this far…

Congratulations.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories isn't an easy game.
It punishes mistakes, demands strategy, and forces you to understand fusions, Guardian Stars, lands, and deck building like few other PS1-era games did.

But now:

  • You have defeated the High Mages
  • Defeated the Gate Guardian
  • Faced off against Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon
  • Survived Seto 3rd
  • And Nitemare won

You've beaten one of the hardest games from many people's childhoods.

And he probably did it the right way.

If this walkthrough helped you at any point along the way, mission accomplished.
